Oxford Day 2

The first time I woke up this morning (yes, there was multiple times) was at about 12:35 am. I woke to the sounds of 6 people comparing their room keys in my dorm room. After what seemed like 10 minutes, though it was probably 30 seconds, they put their stuff on their beds and left the room. I immediately fell back asleep. At 3:37 am I woke up really needing to pee. Reluctantly I got out of my warm bed and made my way down the hall to the bathroom. When I returned to my room, I quickly shut the door so the light didn't wake up anyone in the room. I slowly walked back to my bed for the fear of bumping into something a waking everyone up. Again, once I was safely under the covers, I fell right asleep. At 5:18 am I woke up again. When I checked my phone for the time, I realized I had a wonderful wifi signal and a few notifications. As I was checking my email and school page, my sister Abbe posted on my Facebook wall. I checked and all it said was "Hi, I love you." This made my day. I love and miss my sisters so very much.
After messaging back and forth with my sister for a few minutes, I fell back asleep for the last time and woke up again 2 minutes before my alarm. I turned off my alarm and got up to wake Anavi up. We both got out our clothes and shower toiletries as quietly as possible as the rest of our roommates were asleep. Once we got our stuff we showered and got ready for the day. Quietly we came back into our dorm and put away our toiletries and pjs before getting breakfast in our hostel.
For breakfast there was cereal, juice, and toast with an assortment of toppings. As we waited for our toast to toast we talked about the toppings. There was Vegemite which neither of us had tried before. In the kitchen with us was one of the hostel employees getting his breakfast. He overheard us talking about Vegemite and asked if I had tried it. I said no and he said he liked it very much but not everyone does. I decided to try it. I put a small dab on my plate and dipped the corner of my piece of toast in it. I'll stick to butter and toast. I do not like Vegemite.
The beginning of our walking tour
We wanted to rent bikes today but all the bike places were closed unfortunately. Well all the cheap bike places were closed. We found a great free walking tour and took the 11:00 am tour. Until the tour began we explored the residential part of Oxford on foot. I love the house and apartments here. They are so cute and I want one. The tour was great! Our tour guide was an Oxford graduate who knew so much about the city and its history.
For lunch we went to The Three Goats Head. We got Fish & Chips and Macaroni & Cheese to share. It was so good! The Macaroni & Cheese had the perfect amount of cheese. I'm so glad we shared because we basically got to have 2 lunches for the price of one.
After a lovely lunch, we went to a bookstore that sold all of its books for £3! I resisted and didn't buy any as my luggage won't fit 20 new books. My wallet wouldn't like it much either. We got ice cream after the bookstore. It tasted like an ice cream version of whipped cream. Yummy!
Great Hall inspiration!
Staricase where McGonagall met the first years
Our last stop before dinner was Christ Church. For any Harry Potter nerds, you'll know that Harry Potter has scenes filmed throughout in the UK. Here in Oxford there are many. In Christ Church, in particular, there are 4. They have the staircase that Professor McGonagall first greeted the cast before the sorting ceremony in the first movie, the staircase Ron and Harry ran up after flying the car to school in the second movie, the dining hall that inspired the Great Hall in the movies, and the hallway where Herimone showed Harry his father's Quidditch trophy in the first movie. I silently freaked out the entire time. Anavi didn't notice that I was freaking out the whole time so I think I kept a lid on it very well.
Our lovely snacks :)
We've been wanting to get tea at tea shop. So we found a cute cafe called Maison Blanc. We ordered the Afternoon Tea Special. With that we got 1 large pot of tea, sandwiches, biscuits, and small pastries. It was so very good. We couldn't eat all of the food because there was so much and we got so full. Needing to pack and take care of a few more things before tomorrow, we headed back to the hostel.
We're here now using the wifi and making a new friend! His name is Lawrence. He's from the UK and is looking to find a place to live in Oxford. He just got at job close to here working as a Biochemist. Staying in a hostel you met such cool and interesting people.
Staircase from 2nd movie
that Harry & Ron ran up
During our tour today, Anavi and I decided that we are going to do our graduate work here at Oxford University. So Mom, instead of moving to Girona, I'm moving to Oxford in a little over 2 years.
