A lazy yet productive day

I set my alarm for 10:00 am this morning but woke up a few hours before it went off. On days that I have no set plans, like today, I love waking up before my alarm. Waking up before my alarm means I can lay in bed and cuddle in the warmth of my dinky covers till the time I planned to actually get up.
The first thing I did when I got up was email the AIFS staff about my apartment's blanket situation. When we arrived, our beds only had 2 sheets on them besides the one covering the mattress. At the time, it was no problem. The weather was warm and no comforter or heavier blanket was needed. Now that the weather is cooling down, we are all in need of a warmer blanket. The past few nights in particular have been quite chilly. So I emailed them in hopes that they will bring us more blankets. They did this for another apartment, so they should do it for us. If not, we will go buy some cheap blankets but we'd all rather not spend our money that way.
With two chapter tests due on Tuesday night, I did one of them after getting distracted by my Sudoku and Frozen Free Fall apps for about an hour. Then I decided I was going to go on a run.
Maybe this is just a personal thing but I have to force myself to go running even though I know I love how I feel after I do. I had to force myself to get up from the table and get changed into my workout clothes. I complained to myself all the way down the stairs but once I got outside and started my run, I began to feel that amazing feeling.
I am by no means a great or fast runner. I average 10 minutes a mile, which fluctuates if I'm feeling blah or great that day. Today I ran about 3 miles. Camp Nou (FC Barcelona's futbol stadium) is a 0.6 mile run from our apartment so I ran to there. Then from there I ran to the closest metro stop which is about a mile away from Camp Nou. From there I went back the way I came. It was a great run. Took me just under 30 minutes.
When I got home I relaxed and stretched on our cold balcony. Our friend Sophia arrived shortly after I got home to study with Anavi for their debate on Tuesday. I hopped in the shower once I ate some food. Then I plopped back down at the table to do some more research for my upcoming trip, for which I will announce my destination tomorrow!
At 5:00 pm my time (8:00 am California time) I tried to Skype with a few of my closest friends from home but technical difficulties got in the way. Hailey's Skype wasn't connecting to mine and Delaney didn't have a laptop with a camera. Katie and I have Skyped before so we knew it'd work for us but sadly we couldn't get the other girls. We will connect very soon!! I haven't Skyped as much as I thought I would thus far. I'd love to Skype with my grandparents, my sisters, my dad, and a few more close friends. But we have time! I still have over 2 months here in wonderful Spain.
Since Katie and I've got Skype down, we Skyped for a over an hour. It was really great to see her face and talk to her. I've been getting a little homesick and seeing a very familiar faced helped a lot.
On the subject of homesickness, I've been looking for some familiar things to do and places to eat. My friend Sophia and I were talking the other day about carrot cake and I love carrot cake. For some odd reason, I associate carrot cake with home. Thus, I went on a search for a place with carrot cake and I found one. Sharing this news with Sophia we left my apartment almost right away to go get a slice of carrot cake.
Brunch & Cake is the cafe I found that has carrot cake. It is even cuter in person than in the photos on Yelp. We arrived about an hour before closing and barely got a table. It was packed. Once we sat down, we were given our menus and realized it was so much more than just coffee, croissants, and cakes. The menu has a large assortment of foods and we can not wait to go back and eat a full meal there. They have a Quinoa salad that is calling my name.
But back to the cake. When the waiter came to take our order, he gave us the devastating news that there was no carrot cake left, only vanilla. Crushed but still craving some cake, we ordered a slice of vanilla cake. I ordered an iced coffee to go along with my cake and Sophia ordered a water. The cake slice was massive but delicious. We enjoyed our cake and drinks over a lovely conversation. I enjoy talking and hanging out with Sophia very much. She is an intelligent, funny person who I've connected with quite well.
Now I am back home and ready for a good night's rest.
